What is my upstander's organization? What does it do?
My upstander works with the EFC and collaborates with other organizations such as Samaritan's Purse and Five Breads Two Fish.
Nicole Abler
An upstander is someone who can stand up for anyone who needs help. This means sticking to your beliefs and values, even if it is difficult and isn't rewarded with money. Nicole has volunteered for many years, she noted that working as an upstander has to be done with good intent. It's important to focus on something you're passionate about, and do it because you feel for the struggles of others. She believes that everyone is connected into communities, and leaving others behind in worse conditions is an injustice .

I am only one, but still one. I cannot do everything, but I can do something. And because I cannot do everything, I will not refuse to do the something that I can do." - Edward Everett Hale
Upstanding Impact
Upstanding for someone in your community might not change the world, but it will leave a lasting change for anyone you help. Nicole suggests that everyone should volunteer of be an upstander, and see how much of a change one person can make in communities in need. It can be humbling to see how fortunate we are, and being able to appreciate it by helping others.

My Exhibit
After finding and interviewing an upstander, we were challenged with making a 3D model representing their qualities. In my exhibit, I wanted to symbolize compassion, support, and community. The tree represents a community, connected and supporting each other. There are individual strings glued to each other, as they can't stick to the tree otherwise. Empathy is a big parts of upstanding, the colors of the string, red and silver show compassion and a metaphor for the way we can reflect the feelings of others. Tissue box cardboard makes up the tree's roots, trunk, and branches. I used it to portray a community of people raised up together, only as tall and strong as those around them.
