Wendy Ramirez is an upstander because she made learning kits for migrant kids. After talking to a teacher friend who works in the McFarland School District, Wendy found out that the children of migrant farmworkers haven’t been able to fully immerse themselves in learning because they don't have enough money to buy school supplies and are on the screen too long without any real aspects of being in the classroom. Wendy wanted to help them, so she started to collect school items like bilingual books, art supplies, and science kits, so that the kids could have more hands-on work during the coronavirus pandemic. A lot of volunteers, artists, and authors donated supplies and helped put together the learning kits. Wendy was able to deliver more than 550 learning kits to the children of migrant farmworkers during a drive by pick up where she was able to talk to and get to know the kids.
