What makes an upstander?
"Strong people stand up for themselves but the strongest people stand up for others"
To me, an upstander is someone who knows that something is wrong, and instead of thinking, "someone else can do it" or, "It's not my problem" an upstander sees the problem in the world and tries to fix it. To me, being an upstander takes courage, because having the courage to face the problems of the world head on isn't something anyone can do.
Stephanie Wieland is a critical social worker. She believes that everyone, regardless of their upbringing or social status, should be valued equally, and helps children with mental problems fit into society. She is an upstander because she helps those who are considered bad in society, mainly children with mental problems.
